Data Controllers
Traf-Sys Data Controllers are necessary to collect Pedestrian Traffic data from your sensors. Our data controllers use a proprietary wireless antenna to receive data from the sensors and log the data locally. They use a 10baseT Ethernet connection to connect to your local network and can even be configured to send XML data over the Internet.
Application
The purpose of a Data Controller device is to have a central location at your site where pedestrian traffic data can be logged and accessed. The data controller can be configured to retrieve data from all sensors in a building and log that data on a regular time interval. Without a data controller, you would only be able to get the total number of counts your sensor has detected (if it has a built-in display). So, if you would like to be able to see your data trended over time, a Data Controller device is a must-have.
The Data Controller device also serves as an interface between your sensors and your local network. Your data controller can be accessed from a central point on your network, or if you don't have a network, you can connect it directly to your PC using a crossover network cable.
Which Data Controller is Best for You?
The type of data controller you select depends on your project needs. First, let's compare the differences between the MIU-1000 and MIU-1500.
| Features | MIU-1000 | MIU-1500 |
| Can be used without software | | |
| Data available in .csv format via ftp | | |
| Compatible with SiteCount software | | |
| Compatible with VisiCount software | | |
| Send XML Data over the Web | | |
| Compatible with Traf-Sys Hosted VisiCount | | |
The MIU-1000 is best used for installations with multiple sites that you will manage with VisiCount or a VisiCount hosted solution. If your project requires pedestrian traffic data to be transmitted over the Web, you can use the XML Web Publishing feature of the MIU-1000 to push the data to your own database.
If you need a data controller device for a single site with some simple reporting and exporting tools, then the MIU-1500 is your best match. The MIU-1500 features a web-browser interface that will allow you to view all logged data on the device and export data to .csv format.
